‘In Stillness’
Edwina Corlette Gallery, Brisbane, 2009
In stillness the sculptural form of the vessel stands in its own defined space.
The exhibition ‘In Stillness’, is inspired by the ceramic vessel and vase. The refined simplicity and sculptural quality of the vase echoes the human form. The monumental scale of the vase in these works is also suggestive of the figure, creating its own sculptural totemic presence.
As in the process of hand building a coiled vase, the plasticity of clay mirrors the physicality and sensuality of paint, building up layers of paint over time in order to find the essence of form. It is this quality of evolution and reduction I wish to capture in this work.
